YUDDHA-KAANDA or LANKAA-KAANDA

( The sixth book of the Raamaayanam )

( The Y in this name is a consonant pronounced like 'y' in 'you'. The first D is pronounced soft like 'th' in 'that' and it conjuncts with the succeeding D which is pronounced likewise but becomes a hard aspirate due to the H after it. The N is pronounced hard like 'n' in 'turn'. The last D is pronounced soft like 'd' in 'dump'. In the alternative name, the L is pronounced soft like 'l' in 'luck'. )

Yuddha-Kaanda is the sixth of the seven Kaandas of the Raamaayanam. It is so named as it chiefly describes the war (Yuddha=war) between the demons and the Vaanaras. The book is named Lankaa Kaanda since it describes the war and other incidents that happenned in Lanka.)

This Kaanda describes the following main incidents of the epic.

"We bow to the cuckoo of Vaalmeeki that rests on the branch of poetry and gives out the sweet cooing of the beatiful sounds of "Raama" , "Raama" for our pleasure. "
